Workspace overview This topic contains a ShowMe movie

The Dreamweaver workspace is flexible to accommodate different styles of working and levels of expertise as you create web pages. There are a few components of the Dreamweaver workspace you use constantly:

The Document window displays the current document approximately as it appears in a web browser.
The Object palette contains buttons for creating various types of objects such as images, tables, layers, and so on.
The Property inspector displays properties for selected objects.
The Launcher has buttons for opening and closing various inspectors and palettes.

Click Show Me to see an animated introduction to the workspace.

You can open the file created in this ShowMe movie from a browser, or you can open it in Dreamweaver by choosing Help > Open Example and selecting !workspace_example.htm.

In addition to using windows, palettes, and inspectors; Dreamweaver has some basic techniques for editing, configuring, and previewing documents:

Select objects in the Document window, the HTML inspector, or with the tag selector at the bottom left of the Document window
Define a page title, background, and default colors with Page Properties
Add anchors, comments, scripts and other invisible elements to your pages with the Object palette. Choose View > Invisible Elements to display selectable icons marking invisible elements
Preview pages in a web browser with File > Preview in Browser
Check the size and estimated download time of a page.
